There is no a direct-correspondence to the famous F2 of Windows, but, it is possible to rename a file with fewer passages than the usual. Something very similar to a shortcut.
The traditional way is indeed:
select the folder/file – > right click on the folder or file -> rename
What you can do in a faster way is:
select the folder -> hold down FN and click
OR
select the folder -> click enter
